The Story

Some Champagne vintages announce themselves through delicacy. Dom Pérignon 2015 makes its impression through presence: a broad, richly textured wine born from one of Champagne's most strikingly warm and dry growing seasons.

After a mild winter and a bitterly cold start to spring, an extended stretch of heat and drought ran from mid-May into August. Water stress slowed ripening unevenly across the vineyards. Rain arrived late in August, allowing maturation to resume; picking began on 7 September. The challenge was to assemble fruit that carried the generosity of the summer without losing balance.

The finished Champagne is unmistakably of its year: powerful yet controlled, with a creamy, expansive texture and a fascinating contrast between roasted depth, fresh fruit and subtle bitterness.

The Producer

The name Dom Pérignon honours Dom Pierre Pérignon, the Benedictine monk who became procurator of the Abbey of Hautvillers in 1668. His pursuit of exceptional wine through careful selection and blending remains central to the house's identity. He did not, despite the familiar legend, invent sparkling Champagne.

Modern Dom Pérignon has a defining rule: it makes only vintage Champagne. Every release is an interpretation of a single growing season, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir brought into harmony rather than one grape allowed to dominate the story.

Years of maturation on the lees are essential to the house's style, building depth and texture before the wine is released. For the 2015 vintage, that patience transformed a sun-filled harvest into something layered, assured and exceptionally expressive at the table.

Place & Terroir

Champagne sits at the northern edge of fine-wine growing, where cool conditions and chalk-rich soils help grapes retain the freshness needed for long-lived sparkling wine. Chardonnay lends lift and definition; Pinot Noir contributes structure and breadth.

The slopes around Hautvillers are part of the region's historic wine landscape, overlooking the Marne valley. They help explain why vineyard exposure and picking decisions matter so much in Champagne. The photograph is a regional illustration, not a claim that its pictured vines were used in this cuvée.

In 2015, differences in ripeness between vineyards were especially pronounced. The late-August rain and carefully timed harvest allowed the house to draw out ripe fruit while maintaining the energy and precision essential to the blend.

Perfect Pairings

This is a Champagne to open with dinner, not merely to pour for a toast. Its breadth and savoury complexity make it a beautiful partner for lobster, seared scallops, langoustines, roast chicken and delicate duck dishes. A lightly spiced preparation or a citrus-led sauce can play especially well against its aromatic warmth.

Serving suggestion: Start around 10–12°C and use a tulip-shaped Champagne glass or a fine white-wine glass. Give the wine a few minutes to open rather than serving it ice-cold.

Worth Knowing

The 2015 vintage was released in 2024, almost nine years after the harvest. That time in the cellar is part of why Dom Pérignon can offer the richness of a ripe year without sacrificing its sense of structure.

For collectors, storage remains important: keep bottles consistently cool, dark and protected from vibration. The best reason to cellar one is not a promised drinking date, but the chance to see how its roasted, floral and fruit notes evolve with time.
